Scholarships for Professional Education & Training

Free training and educational programs for all RNs, LPNs, social workers, staff of adult day centers, ombudsmen, and staff working in facilities with licensed nursing home dementia Special Care Units are now available through the Alzheimer’s Association – Greater Illinois Chapter.  The Chapter is able to offer these scholarship opportunities because of two state grants. 

The first grant offers full scholarships to RNs, LPNs, social workers and all adult day center staff for education and training programs. You must register by January 31, 2009 to receive full scholarships for programs scheduled after January.

Tackle Alzheimer's

During football season, it’s all about supporting your team, win or lose. But when it comes to Alzheimer’s disease, we’re all on the same side. We’re the team that’s fighting to end this disease!

That’s why the Alzheimer’s Association is asking you to host a Tackle Alzheimer’s party during the upcoming slate of college football bowl games, starting Dec. 20 and culminating in the Bowl Championship Series (BCS) games the first week in January.

Alzheimer’s Association Rhinestone Pins are Available!

The Alzheimer’s Association-Greater Illinois Chapter is not only known as one of the leading Chapter’s in the United States, but as trend setters, too.

Available for the holidays are the Alzheimer’s Association logo rhinestone pins that you may have seen many of our employees and constituents wearing to any number of events. These silver plated jewelry pieces come in two sizes—large (1 1/8” x 1 1/8”) or small (¾” x ¾”). The large piece is set in plated silver with straight pin closure and is available for $18. The small piece is set in plated silver with tie tack fastener $15. Proceeds from the sales of these pins go to supporting programs and services provided by the Greater Illinois Chapter.

More Programs Coming Soon for Early Stage
Individuals: We Heard Your Voices!

The Greater Illinois Chapter gathered individuals in the early stages recently to hear about needed programs. Three focus groups took place in Bloomington, Aurora and Elk Grove Village, Illinois. A total of 39 people participated including 20 individuals diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in the early stages or with early onset (younger than 65 years old).

New Professional Training Offering in 2009!
In an effort to stay on the forefront in the fight against Alzheimer’s disease, the Alzheimer’s Association – Greater Illinois Chapter is rolling out a new program within their Professional Training Institute.

2008 Union Station Holiday Charity Drive a Success!

On Tuesday, December 16, 2008 the Greater Illinois Chapter took over Chicago’s historic Union Station to participate in the 2008 Holiday Charity Drive.  With the help of a wonderful army of volunteers the Greater Illinois Chapter staff raised nearly $3,000 to help support the Chapter’s programs and services and offered help and hope to all that stopped by the Chapter’s resource table in the Great Hall.
