Giving Up the Keys

The Alzheimer’s Association® officially launched a new portion of the alz.org website that helps people have the conversations about dementia and driving. These conversations can be difficult, frustrating, and awkward for everyone involved. This is something caregiver, Andrea Imes, knows all too well. Her husband, Roland, has Alzheimer’s disease.
“Roland was not a stranger to the challenges that accompany driving and aging,” said Andrea Imes. “He struggled with when and how to talk about taking away his own mother’s car keys.

Volunteer Spotlight: Mary Jo Keffer
|

Mary Jo Keffer’s wonderful personality and positive attitude are enjoyed by everyone who encounters her at the Alzheimer’s Association®, Rockford Office. Many of us have gained increased knowledge because of her skills. She was a business education teacher at the high school level and is extremely proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite.

Be On the Lookout for Walk to End Alzheimer’s and ALZ Stars

It is that time of year again when we invite people to start organizing their teams for the annual Walk to End Alzheimer’s® and call for people to sign up for the ALZ Stars® athletic program! Our walk and ALZ Stars fundraising pages will go live in mid January. Keep you eyes open for more information from us in the coming month!

Fred’s Forget-Me-Nots have been one of our largest fund raising teams for the past few years for the Bloomington Walk to End Alzheimer’s®. The family decided this year to use some of the money they would normally contribute to their team to become a Premier Sponsor of the event. The Grace family team is lead by Amy Yusman. Amy’s grandfather died of the disease, and now the brothers, sisters, cousins, etc. all rally for the cause.

The Family Forums offer family members an opportunity to learn about memory loss and Alzheimer’s disease from experts in the field of aging as well as connect with other caregivers and professionals eager to help. There is also a resource fair that provides an opportunity for additional information about products and services available to you.
