Walking to Find a Cure

Walking is something many of us take for granted every day. When you stop and think about it, walking is one of the most powerful things we as humans can do and when we walk along side others to rally around a cause the power grows ten-fold. Join the Alzheimer's Association for the launch of our new signature event, Walk to End Alzheimer's! The Greater Illinois Chapter will host 18 walks throughout our 68-county service area in September and October.

The Alzheimer's Breakthrough Act would advance breakthrough treatments for people living with Alzheimer's by requiring a federal commitment to Alzheimer's disease research.

With an estimated 210,000 people living with Alzheimer’s disease in Illinois alone, the fight to end Alzheimer’s has never been more urgent. The fact this disease remains America’s sixth-leading cause of death without a way to prevent, cure or slow its progression is devastating.

Yet, we find hope through the support of our families, friends and communities as we raise funds for further research, enhanced care and an overall vision of a world without Alzheimer’s. The Greater Illinois Chapter team cannot thank you all enough for your dedicated time and energy.

THE BOOMER GENERATION: What you need to know about Alzheimer’s disease
2011 marks a historic year. The first generation of baby boomers turn 65, and it is not unreasonable to assume that you or someone you know has a family member fighting Alzheimer’s disease. The truth is undeniable - the baby boomer generation will be deeply impacted with this disease as it is estimated that 10 million baby boomers will develop Alzheimer’s disease.

The Alzheimer’s Association invites you to meet and celebrate the Greater Illinois Chapter’s newly formed Junior Board on Thursday, July 21, 2011 from 7:00 - 10:00 p.m. at Old Town Social, 455 West North Avenue, Chicago. The Alzheimer’s Association - Greater Illinois Chapter's newly formed Junior Board is dedicated to raising awareness of Alzheimer’s disease and to increase young professional engagement through events, education and other activities to further the efforts of the Greater Illinois Chapter. During the ICAD Conference in Honolulu, the Alzheimer’s Association announced the launch of Alzheimer’s Association TrialMatch™, a confidential and free tool that provides comprehensive clinical trial information and an individualized trial matching service for people with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias.
