Join Us at the Bloomington Family Forum
Alzheimer’s Association Family Forum is a great way to learn about memory loss and Alzheimer’s disease from experts in the field of aging, as well as connect with other caregivers and professionals eager to help. The resource fair will provide an excellent opportunity for additional information about products and services available to you.
Focusing on research and quality of life, Dr. Chris Wellin will offer insights on how to use current literature and research to manage everyday challenges of cognitive illnesses. The forum also offers a chance to “ask the experts’ as panelists from various topic such as: activities, elder abuse, elder law, nutrition, and pharmacy. The closing session will look at how families cope with Alzheimer’s disease as Faith Roberts, RN, illustrates through her seminar, “I’d Like to Tell You Something, but I Can’t Remember What.”

June is National Safety Month
In recognition of National Safety Month (June) and as a follow-up to the recent press release regarding the devastating weather (and flooding) in areas where our southern Illinois constituents reside, we wanted to make sure that you think about, review and plan for (weather-related) emergencies.
Fortunately Ready.gov has a wealth of information that outlines step you should take when thinking about your home – particularly if you are a person diagnosed with a type of dementia, a care partner or a professional in the field. Please see below and visit their website for more information.

Thank you to our Volunteers and Supporters!
May 13 and 14, 2011 marked the ninth annual Forget Me Not Days®, a nationwide fundraiser started by Bankers Life and Casualty Company in 2003. Each May, Bankers Life and Casualty Company agents and employees go out into the community to collect donations for local chapters of the Alzheimer’s Association and raise awareness of the disease. Those who donate are given a packet of Forget-Not-Not flower seeds in exchange for their donation, and are asked to plant those seeds in honor of the estimated 5.4 million people with Alzheimer’s. For a second year in a row, volunteers for the Alzheimer’s Association - Greater Illinois Chapter have also participated in this fundraiser. From the efforts of our dedicated volunteers and our champions at Bankers Life, we have collectively raised nearly $35,000 for the Greater Illinois Chapter – and we’re still counting! We are deeply grateful to those who participated or donated. You are truly helping move our cause forward! If you would like to host a fundraiser on behalf of the Alzheimer's Association, please contact the office nearest you and mention "third party event." Click here if you would like to volunteer for the Association.
