Hurry! You only have until October 9 to Help Team CARE Earn an Extra $10,000!

There are only a few days left to help the Alzheimerís Association Ė Greater Illinois Chapter receive an extra $10,000 from the Bank of America Chicago Marathon. The Chapter cannot achieve this alone, we need your help! We are calling upon all of our Champions in the fight against Alzheimer’s disease to click here and design your own digital shoe print. You can personalize the prints with a photo and inspirational quote. The shoe prints will be uploaded to the marathon web site where a scroll of the finished images will appear on the home page.

The first 50,000 entries will receive a $1 donation to the charity of their choice. The winning organization will be announced at the 27th Mile Post-Race Party. Help make a difference in the lives of the half-a-million Illinois residents impacted by Alzheimer’s disease and make your shoe print today!


4 Chances Left to Join Memory Walk

Over the past month the Greater Illinois Chapter has hosted 9 Memory Walks throughout the state. If you weren’t able to join us in September you still have an opportunity! We will be hosting four memory walks in different regions of our services area. In September, Memory Walk had more than 4,200 Illinoisans take to the streets and walk in support of the Alzheimer’s cause; and an estimated 700 are going to join us in October. If you want to be one of those people walking to end Alzheimer’s join us at one of the following walks, or you can still donate to a local walk in your area!

Alzheimer Cases Expected To Double Every 20 Years

A new global Alzheimer prevalence report estimates that 35 million people worldwide, a 10 percent increase over 2005, are living with Alzheimer's and dementia. According to the 2009 World Alzheimer Report, released by Alzheimer's Disease International (ADI) on World Alzheimer's Day (Sept. 21), the number of people with Alzheimer's is expected to nearly double every 20 years, to over 65 million in 2030 and over 115 million in 2050. These numbers highlight the need for action and response.

Are You Coping With Memory Loss In The Early Stages?

In an effort to serve individuals with a diagnosis of memory loss directly, the Greater Illinois Chapter will host an Early Stage Expo. The inaugural Early Stage Expo for individuals coping with early stage memory loss, their families and friends will take place on Monday, November 9, 2009 from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. at the Elmhurst Art Museum, 150 Cottage Hill Avenue, Elmhurst.

November is National Alzheimer’s Disease Awareness Month

During the month of November the Alzheimer’s Association – Greater Illinois Chapter will honor and remember all those who have bravely battled Alzheimer’s disease. National Alzheimer’s Disease Awareness Month began in 1983 when it was signed into law by former President Ronald Reagan. Current research estimates that there are more than half-a-million Illinoisans who are directly impacted by the far reaching affects of Alzheimer’s disease. Concurrently every 70 seconds someone develops Alzheimer’s disease. The month of November is a time to honor and help those on an Alzheimer’s journey. Regis Philbin to Headline Benefit at Horseshoe Casino

On Saturday, November 14 the Greater Illinois and the Greater Indiana Chapters will host Walk Down Memory Lane at Horseshoe Casino in Hammond, Indiana. Click here for ticket packages and pricing. Doors will open at 6:00 p.m.

“Gala attendees will spend the evening listening to some of the most loved standards and song classics that will be sure to bring back images of vintage Vegas,” said Lisa Lee, vice-president of development for the Greater Illinois Chapter. “The evening will include cocktails, a spectacular dinner, a silent auction and entertainment by Regis Philbin, host of the wildly popular talk show ‘LIVE! With Regis and Kelly."

Two Conference Opportunities for Family and Professional Caregivers in Springfield

The Alzheimer’s Association – Greater Illinois Chapter in partnership with Southern Illinois University and the Illinois Department on Aging will present two conferences in the month of November. Alzheimer’s Awareness is intended for Family Caregivers and will take place on Monday, November 16. Synchronizing Science and Support 14th Annual Conference on Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Disorders is geared towards professional caregivers and will be presented on Tuesday, November 17. Both conferences will be held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel and Conference Center, 3000 South Dirksen Parkway, Springfield, Illinois 62703.
