Cheer on our ALZ Stars at the Chicago Marathon
|
|
The Bank of America Chicago Marathon is right around the corner, and this year is an exceptional one for our ALZ Stars team.
Setting a record with 150 participants, the team running to benefit the Alzheimer’s Association®, Greater Illinois Chapter has raised more than $118,000 to date. The ALZ Stars team members will travel from several different parts of the country to take their marks at Grant Park Sunday, October 7. They are among a group of 10,000 participants who run the 26.2 miles to the finish line to raise funds and awareness for more than 190 local, national and global causes.
"For ALZ Stars, this marathon is much more than a race,” said Ellie Simpson, Manager of Athletic Events for the Alzheimer’s Association. “It's personal. It's a mother, grandfather, brother...it's a life worth fighting for and a future worth saving for millions of people we love who are affected by this disease. It's our reason to run and cross the ultimate finish line of a world without Alzheimer's that keeps us moving."
Please consider volunteering your time to cheer on this special group of runners on race day or showing your support with a donation!

Alzheimer's Association seeking volunteers for community outreach
|
If there’s one thing that has surprised Patrick Kennedy since taking on the role of an Alzheimer’s Association® Community Representative (AACR), it’s just how much misinformation he hears about the disease while out in the community.
“What I’m finding is so many rumors,” said the Freeport resident, who got involved with the Association after his mother, Patricia Jamieson, was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. “The cause of Alzheimer’s disease has been the biggest thing – that it’s caused by what you eat or drink or because you’re by power lines. I’m here with the education to say ‘No, that’s not accurate.’ I can turn some of that misinformation around and put some facts on the table.”

Nationwide program brings attention to power of memories
|
The fact that Matthew Smith’s cross-country project The Spaces Between Your Fingers comes to a close on Election Day, Nov. 6, is no coincidence.
“I like the idea of making this project a campaign,” said Smith of Philadelphia. “While the candidates are going overhead in their jets, I’m crisscrossing the country in my junky car.”
But it’s not funds or votes Smith is seeking. He is asking for something far simpler. He is asking for you to tell him a memory.
