Excellent news…your father has been cleared for release from the hospital. He has his list of medications, dietary restrictions and limitations on activities for his recovery at home. He and your family have met with the discharge planner to coordinate care at home with an end goal that he will not become one of the 20 percent of Medicare patients who are re-admitted within 30 days (New England Journal of Medicine, 2009). However, your father also has Alzheimer’s disease. Your mother has sole responsibility for the administration of medications, adhering to his new diet, and assisting with personal care. She mentioned that he is difficult to manage when he becomes upset.

September is now World Alzheimer’s Month
We recently announced our line-up for World Alzheimer’s Day taking place on Wednesday, September 21. Now, we’re excited to let you in on some changes coming for the whole month of September leading up to this event.

The Alzheimer’s Association recently announced that the entire month of September will be known as World Alzheimer’s Month. By focusing our efforts throughout the month, we hope this encourages people to feel empowered to take action in their local chapters.

Winner Announced! Threadless T-Shirts on Sale in September for WAM!
As part of World Alzheimer's Month (WAM) in September, the Alzheimer's Association and Threadless have partnered to challenge people to design an inspirational T-shirt around the theme of "Thoughts." The results are in and the design called “Memory Fades but the Love Remains” created by Danmir Mercado has been chosen for print. The chosen design will be available for sale at www.alz.org/wam beginning Sept. 1, with 25 percent of the retail price for each shirt sold benefiting the Alzheimer's Association.
