Description:
Professionals working with older adults frequently encounter difficult situations for which there is no easy solution. When someone has dementia, these situations are even more difficult. What should we do when there seems to be no “good” or “right” answer? This seminar will introduce three models of ethical decision making and apply them to case studies. By the end of this presentation, you will be able to: Identify some of the ethical challenges faced by professionals working in the field of dementia care. Describe three frameworks for ethical decision-making. Utilize these frameworks in clinical practice.
Presenter:
Melanie Chavin, MS, Vice President of Program Services for the Alzheimer’s Association -Greater Illinois Chapter. She previously worked with persons with dementia and their caregivers in a variety of residential and community-based settings. Her experience includes providing direct care, education, training and geriatric consultative services to organizations serving older adults.
