Description:

Professionals working with older adults frequently encounter difficult situations for which there is no easy solution. When the older adult has dementia, these situations are even more difficult. What should we do when there is no “good” or “right” answer to a situation? This seminar will introduce participants to three models of ethical decision making. Lecture, discussion and case studies will be used to help participants become comfortable with utilizing these models in their practice. This program is especially beneficial for Case Mangers, Social Workers, and Professional Counselors.

By the end of this presentation, participants will be able to:

  • Identify some of the ethical challenges faced by professionals working in the field of dementia care.
  • Describe three basic frameworks for ethical decision- making.
  • Utilize these frameworks, using case studies and small group discussion.

Presenter:

Melanie Chavin, MS
