On Thursday February 21, 2008, nearly 400 people gathered at the River East Art Center in Chicago for the Greater Illinois Chapter’s “A Toast to Remember” event. The night was filled with spirited conversation, delectable appetizers and an extensive selection of specialty beers and wines from around the world. The atmosphere inside the beautiful venue was one of inspiration and hope as we continue to wage our battle against this devastating disease.
Melissa Isaacson, a sports writer for the Chicago Tribune, was the emcee for the event. Isaacson recently gained notoriety in the Alzheimer’s community for an article she wrote detailing her family’s journey with Alzheimer’s disease. She opened the evening with a heartfelt welcome. The passion and conviction she spoke with was an inspiration to all who attended.
“A Toast to Remember” featured both a silent and live auction. “It was wonderful to see everyone come together and support this worthy cause,” said Teresa Gruber, Manager, Special Events for the Chapter. “We truly appreciate our sponsors, those who kindly donated the auction items, our volunteers who gave graciously of their time, the ‘A Toast to Remember’ committee and the Chapter staff who worked diligently to ensure this event was a success.”
The overall success of “A Toast to Remember” hinged on the support of the donors and volunteers. Because of their tireless efforts and generous gifts, the Greater Illinois Chapter will be able to continue vital community education programs for years to come. These programs include a 24-hour Helpline, support groups, educational opportunities for both public and professional audiences and Medic Alert® + Safe Return®, which reunites loved ones who have exhibited exit seeking behaviors, commonly called wandering, with their family members.
To date, we have raised more than $107,000! To make a donation, please contact Jennifer Heim at 847-933-2413 or jennifer.heim@alz.org.
Thank you so much for your continued support and we hope to see you at A Toast to Remember 2009! Check back for the date and location.
